Introduction
Practical programme for social and psychological safety in the hospitality industry, including e-learning and tools for managers and HR.
Target
The hospitality industry faces major staff shortages and an annual turnover rate of up to 50 per cent, especially among young people. The main causes are high workload, little feedback, conflicts and lack of support from managers. Over a third of staff experience stress complaints, and psychosocial strain causes almost half of absenteeism. Hotels often appoint young, untrained shift leaders, making communication and conflict management difficult.
The Hospitality Safety Compass aims to break this. The programme teaches managers and HR how to promote psychological safety in the workplace. It focuses on three core competences: spotting, addressing/tackling and resolving/escalating. These skills are linked to RI&E, onboarding and daily routines.
This approach gives managers practical tools to address problems early and create a safe culture. This is important for staff retention, job satisfaction and quality in the hospitality industry.
Target
Employees, managers (young and experienced) and HR in the Dutch hospitality industry.
Result
The project will deliver a complete learning programme with e-learning modules, microlearnings, gamification and a toolkit. All materials will be made available white-label so that the whole sector can benefit.
Managers and HR learn how to structurally secure psychological safety. Teams experience a safer working climate, better communication and less conflict. This contributes to lower outflow and higher commitment.
The results are shared via manuals, webinars and an online platform. This creates a sustainable tool that can be widely used in the hospitality industry.
