Project

Investigation into collective WIA basic provision for the hospitality industry

Introduction

Explore options for a collective WIA basic provision to better protect employees in case of disability.

Target

The hospitality sector faces structural challenges such as staff shortages, a vulnerable labour market and a limited safety net in case of long-term illness. Employees face a high risk of loss of income in case of partial disability (the WGA gap).

Other sectors have already included collective WIA schemes in their collective agreements. Within the hospitality industry, this is still lacking. The aim of this project is to investigate whether a collective WIA basic provision is feasible and how it can contribute to being a good employer, sustainable employability and a more attractive sector.

The research focuses on prevention, reintegration, financing, legal frameworks and employee experiences. This is important to future-proof the hospitality sector and provide employees with security and perspective during illness.

Target

Employers and employees in the hospitality sector.

Result

The project delivers a comprehensive research report with insights into risks, needs and opportunities for a basic collective WIA provision. The research includes:

  • Analysis of disability and WGA inflow in the hospitality industry.
  • Interviews with employers, employees, insurers and policymakers.
  • Cost-benefit analysis of different insurance options.
  • Scenarios for implementation in the sector.
